EVERSIO WELLNESS

The History Behind Healthy Mushrooms

For centuries, healthy mushrooms have been used for their therapeutic benefits. From the Egyptians to the Aztecs and all throughout the Eastern world, functional mushrooms have been used to improve and treat many health concerns.

One of the earliest documented discoveries of mushrooms used for wellness came to light in 1991 when a frozen, mummified man was found in the Italian Alps on a border between Austria and Italy. He was named Ötzi and was said to have lived around 3300 BCE. Ötzi was a traveler and was found to be carrying two types of functional mushrooms. One was amadou mushroom (Fomes fomentarius) and the other was birch polypore (Fomitopsis betulina). Amadou mushrooms (also called tinder fungus) were likely used to start fires. While birch polypore are healthy mushrooms known to have anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, and anti-parasitic properties.

Ready to Try Healthy Mushrooms?

Supplements made from healthy mushrooms can provide many benefits, but there are a few things to consider before incorporating them into your routine:

  • If you are taking pharmaceutical medications, breastfeeding, or pregnant, you should consult a health care practitioner before making any changes to your wellness routine
  • Read everything on the label carefully. Labels of licensed mushroom products should include a LOT number, expiration date, barcode, company address, proper storage instructions, dosage, part of the mushroom used, quantity crude equivalent (for extracts), medicinal ingredients and other ingredients.
  • Keep in mind that the expiry date applies to mushroom supplements that are stored properly, so keeping your extracts sealed in an airtight container, away from sunlight and in a cool, dry place is very important.
How to consume healthy mushrooms

3 Convenient Ways to Consume Healthy Mushrooms

Add to Drinks

Healthy mushrooms that are dried, ground, and put through an extraction process are highly potent and effective. To create our mushroom extracts, our cultivators begin by growing medicinal mushrooms on USDA Organic certified farms. Sophisticated extraction methods are used to extract the beneficial compounds from inside the cell walls of the harvested and dried mushrooms. The extraction process produces a very fine extract powder with excellent solubility that can easily be stirred into any beverage.

Take Capsules

Mushroom capsules offer the convenience of being able to consume them anywhere and any time. It’s important to check the ingredients on mushroom supplement capsules as many contain grain and other fillers. The capsules offered by Eversio Wellness include no grains. We use mushroom extracts made from whole fruiting body mushrooms for our capsules so that each serving delivers a therapeutic dose of beneficial compounds.

Upgrade Recipes

There are many clever and creative ways to consume healthy mushrooms with hundreds of recipes available online (and lots on our website). You can mix your functional mushrooms into protein powder, oatmeal, pancakes, chia pudding, yogurt, dressings, sauces, and soups. The possibilities are endless. They add an umami flavor and can turn regular snacks and recipes into superfoods!

Choosing the Right Healthy Mushroom Dosage

Mushroom Capsules

Health Canada specifies a maximum acceptable dose for each specific medicinal mushroom, so it’s important to follow the dosage recommendation on the label. All Eversio Wellness products provide a therapeutic dose (more than 3000mg QCE) in just one capsule. However, for most products taking 2 capsules is still within the safe dosage range and can provide greater effects more quickly when taking the product to address a specific concern. It can help to take extract capsules with food if you are prone to digestive upset. Please consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Best Time to Take Healthy Mushrooms

The best time to take your functional mushrooms depends on the type of mushroom supplements and the benefits you’re looking for. Some might have sedative effects while others can give you more energy.

For example, cordyceps supplements can boost energy and, therefore, shouldn’t be consumed before bed. They can have the same effect as coffee but without caffeine and without the crash. This could disrupt a healthy sleep routine, so taking products with cordyceps earlier in the day is often what’s recommended.

On the other hand, reishi can have sedative and calming effects and works well for taking at night to support quality sleep, before yoga or meditation practices, or anytime you need to chill out.
